Egyptian Paste Glaze

Date: Spring 2023

Creator: D. Reed

Temperature: Cone 04 - 01

Atmosphere: Oxidation

Recipe:
Nepheline Syenite 40%

Silica 30%

Soda Ash 5%

Soda Bicarbonate 5%

OM4 10%

Bentonite 1.8%

Notes:

This glaze is quite porous and sandy when applied thin, but with 2-3 coats it is glossy with pin-holing and slight crazing.  The Egyptian Paste Glaze is likely not functional because of its porosity, but it has great potential as a sculptural glaze. The addition of Gerstley Borate would potentially help with melting the glaze more, anywhere between 2-5% G.B would be my starting point.
